Magdalene Setia Kaitei is part of the Maasai people, who number around 800,000 in Kenya and live in pastoral communities across the regions of Kajiado, Narok, Laikipia, and Samburu.

She is Executive Director of the Emayian Integrated Development Organization, which works to improve Maasai living conditions—especially through education—to protect natural resources and forests, to resist land grabbing, and to confront climate change.

She supports her people’s communities in their empowerment, with a particular focus on women and youth, and advocates for development rooted in social justice. A Member of the Executive Committee of the Alliance of Mother Nature’s Guardians, she carries the voice of the Maasai within the project Amazonia, the Heart of Mother Earth.
