Alessandra Sampaio is a writer and activist born in Bahia, where she first worked as a journalist and poet. The widow of Dom Phillips, who was murdered in 2022 while reporting on conditions in the Vale do Javari region of the Amazon, she founded the Dom Phillips Institute to carry forward his commitment to the forest and its defenders.
