Chief Kretã Kaingang

A longtime executive coordinator of APIB (Articulation of Indigenous Peoples of Brazil) for the Southern region, he fights for the demarcation of his people’s territories as well as for the preservation of the Araucaria forest, which has been severely affected by deforestation.

He is known for leading opposition to fracking projects on Indigenous lands and has organized and participated in numerous actions and events against the EU-Mercosur free trade agreement. His struggle for Indigenous peoples and for the land also helps to shed light on the crimes endured by many communities: ecocide and genocide.
